Welding competition: BUTTING trainees prove their mettle

At the beginning of May, a local competition for young welders took place once again in Hannover for the first time since 2019. The German Welding Society invited budding welders to SLV Hannover to compete in three different welding techniques.

Nine up-and-coming plant fitters and industrial mechanics from Knesebeck qualified for the competition where they demonstrated their skills and expertise in TIG, manual metal arc and MAG welding techniques – with outstanding results for BUTTING. Our trainees won in all three categories, and even took the first three places for TIG and manual metal arc welding. The incredible result of 100 % was achieved by plant fitter Hannes Mielmann, closely followed by his colleague Dominik Kratz with 96.3 % and Silas Anders with 96.2 % in second and third place. Up-and-coming industrial mechanics Philip Grabowski, Justin Melvin Stojke and Mattis Bühring were awarded first to third place for their outstanding performance in manual metal arc welding. Billy-Jean Hamdane claimed victory in the MAG category, while Timo Steinke and Mats Ole Blaue each took fourth place.

Carsten Kamke, who is in charge of commercial and technical training at our main plant in Knesebeck, summed up the competition: "We're delighted with everyone's outstanding performance and are mightily proud that those who took first place have qualified for the national competition." This will take place on 30 June – 1 July in Flensburg.
