Welcome visitors

After months of restrictions, BUTTING is once again happy to open its doors to business partners, while observing the applicable hygiene measures: we recently welcomed the management of Icarus from Belgium to the signing of the contract for the MERO II project in Knesebeck.

The Mero oil field is located in the Santos Basin off the coast of Brazil, 170 kilometres south of Rio de Janeiro at a water depth of approx.
2 100 metres. The Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) unit will have a processing capacity of up to 180 000 barrels of oil per day, with oil production expected to start in 2022.

As a supplier of complete stainless steel packages, Icarus from Belgium was commissioned, among other things, to supply pipes. Leopold Thiese, Managing Director of Icarus, is familiar with BUTTING's production capabilities, thanks to the long-standing trustful partnership and cooperation in sophisticated projects, such as CERN. Against this background, Icarus ordered a sub-package consisting of duplex and superduplex pipes in various dimensions from us. The pipes will be taken from stock and also specially produced from coil or plate for this order. This will be monitored by an independent certification body during production.

Christian Schenk, Head of Sales, Stainless steel welded pipes, Project sales, explains that "the order also covers the production of 215 metres of pipes with an outside diameter of 219.1 mm and a wall thickness of 38.1 mm. The ratio of outside diameter to wall thickness is a challenge, especially in duplex materials. We are proud that the long-standing friend of BUTTING has entrusted us with this task. We appreciate his confidence in our production expertise."
