Successful ISO 45001 certification

BUTTING has had OHSAS 18001 (Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series) certification for occupational health and safety for many years. In 2018, the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) replaced it with ISO 45001. Recently, BUTTING was successfully audited according to this and received the qualification certificate from TÜV Nord for the initial certification.

Jan-Henrik Godau, Head of HSE, is convinced that "healthy and motivated employees are the key to sustainable economic success. With the internationally recognised ISO 45001 certification, BUTTING shows that we are meeting our social responsibility. We are doing everything we can to demonstrably reduce the risk of injuries, accidents and work-related illnesses among employees."

BUTTING is aware that a certified management system is becoming increasingly important when it comes to awarding contracts. "Our customers particularly appreciate certification to an occupational safety standard such as ISO 45001," Jan-Henrik Godau reports. "By implementing occupational health and safety management, we can guarantee the ever-increasing HSE requirements of customers."

Together with an overarching team at the headquarters in Knesebeck, the Head of HSE intensively prepared our company for the audit, reviewed processes and adapted the documentation.

"We demonstrably improve occupational health and safety using appropriate methods and tools within the framework of this management system. In this way, we are continuously ensuring greater safety in the workplace," adds Thomas Schüller, Managing Director of BUTTING in Knesebeck.

"For BUTTING, the standard is a guideline for systematically dealing with and implementing the various aspects of occupational health and safety. This meant that we were already able to identify a few weaknesses during the audit review and eliminate them. But we also follow the principle of continuous improvement in our everyday work and so together make BUTTING safer – for us and for our partners," explains Jan-Henrik Godau.

ISO 45001 ("Occupational health and safety management systems") describes the extensive requirements for an occupational health and safety management system (OSHMS). The globally applicable standard formulates the requirements for occupational health and safety management systems. At the same time, the standard provides companies with suitable instruments and measures to implement them in practice. Compared to OHSAS 18001, the structure of the other European standards was adapted and higher requirements were placed on the certified companies.
