Ring burner for Topsøe successfully delivered

BUTTING one-off item for ammonia production.

At the beginning of June, BUTTING successfully delivered a ring burner for its longstanding customer Topsøe. The main plant in Knesebeck was commissioned for the first time with the production of this one-off item and delighted the customer in all respects.

The ring burner with a diameter of 1,200 mm and a length of 3,000 mm is used for the Sohar International Urea & Chemical Industries LLC (SIUCI) project in Oman and is an important component for the production of ammonia. In ammonia synthesis, hydrogen and nitrogen are converted into ammonia at high temperature and pressure with the help of a catalyst.

Ammonia is an important base product of the chemical industry, serving as a raw material for many chemical syntheses. About 80 to 85 per cent is used for the production of various fertilisers while the rest is used for the production of organic intermediate products, plastics and synthetic fibres, among other things. The many forming operations and the welding of various temperature-resistant nickel-based alloys proved to be a particular challenge for this special component. Both the machining of the burner and the final assembly had to take the tightest tolerances into account. Particularly noteworthy are the very sophisticated manual welding operations. Andreas Kasten, Sales ManagerSpools and plant construction, is delighted: "Kudos to the manufacturing department. You really have to have mastered your craft to make this precise component. We would like to see many more of these or similar projects in the future to further establish ourselves in this market segment."

Dieter Kleen, Sales Director Spools and plant construction added: "It's a great achievement to win another interesting product from Topsøe, which is one of our top customers."

Once again, BUTTING was able to show how top-quality performance is achieved with precision and professional expertise.
