Over 20 years of the BUTTING Akademie

‘Anyone thirsty for knowledge is welcomed with open arms.’ With these words, Hermann Butting opened the BUTTING Akademie in 2004.

This was no empty promise – in recent years, the BUTTING Akademie has become an established institution in the Knesebeck region. It offers courses for local people, for companies and organisations from all over Germany and, in particular, for the BUTTING family of employees.

The beginnings

‘Lifelong learning’ is a philosophy that company owner Hermann Butting lives by and passes on to the company, its employees and his fellow human beings. Over the past 20 years, the BUTTING Akademie has also learned, developed and sometimes even reinvented itself.

In the early days, the motto was ‘from practice for practice – from the region for the region – from person to person’. The academy quickly became a place of learning for everyone. Whether it was basic PC skills for young-at-heart seniors, job application training for school pupils or creative topics such as writing an autobiography – there was something for everyone.

Since 2006, the BUTTING practical days for employees of customers in the stainless steel industry have offered tried-and-tested knowledge on ‘everything to do with quality tubes’ in various modules and exciting insights into production at BUTTING in Knesebeck. Social commitment is an equally constant companion. Since its foundation, the academy has accompanied, supported and developed numerous projects. Today, for example, it is the network coordinator of the nationwide Kinder forschen (Children Research) foundation. The sponsorship of the Gifhorn Nord integration workshop is another commitment to society.

The BURG Knesebeck

In its early years, the academy was based on the factory premises in Knesebeck. However, space was limited, so the search for an alternative began quickly.

Heike and Hermann Butting found the perfect solution on the outskirts of Knesebeck: they purchased the administrative building of the old moated castle together with the adjacent park.

Under the aegis of Heike Butting, the lovingly restoration of the listed building into a fully-fledged conference centre began. In March 2009, the new home of the BUTTING Akademie was officially opened under the name ‘BURG Knesebeck’.

Since then, BURG has established itself as a special meeting place. Numerous regular customers – both within and outside the BUTTING Group – use the conference centre for retreats, training courses and many other events. Attentive staff, a homely atmosphere, exceptional cuisine and modern conference technology ensure well-being, concentration and success.

Team as a factor for success

As an experienced trainer and coach for managers, teams and individuals, Tanja Roth offers individually designed programmes. At BURG Knesebeck, but also directly at the customer's premises, she supports people in their personal development in the areas of leadership, personality, teamwork, resilience and communication.

Karina Olms-Schulz, head of the academy since November 2023, has a clear goal: ‘We want to raise awareness of our entire range of services in the region and beyond. Whether it's the use of the conference centre or our personnel development measures – we are well positioned for the future and have the perfect mix to offer our clients an “all-round carefree package”.’
