Major fire - we are looking to the future

Last Saturday, shortly after noon, a major fire broke out in a production hall of BUTTING in Knesebeck, which had been used for pipe pickling. The hall was completely destroyed.

Already at the weekend, the Management of BUTTING initiated a comprehensive action plan to minimize the damage. Fortunately, BUTTING has several other surface treatment plants for its clad products at other locations, as well as a further big pickling plant for shaped parts. This was immediately converted into a pipe pickling unit. In addition, further areas are available to perform spray pickling of shaped parts and piping components.

For the remaining work areas of pickling technology, a seven-day-week was applied for with the trade supervisory board and the social partner. A sufficient number of qualified staff is available for a 5-shift model owing to the destroyed workplaces.

In addition, the affiliated companies of the BUTTING Group in Könnern and Schwedt/Oder, as well as external service providers were commissioned with pipe cleaning jobs.

Hermann Butting emphazises:“ The disaster has shown that we stick together in this employees' family. I am so grateful that everybody in the team is willing to offer their innovative strength to find solutions in this situation. We are looking to the future!“
