E-methanol: BUTTING supplies for production plant

BUTTING recently booked another order for our green future: For an ambitious project in Scandinavia, a piping package was ordered via a partner in the stockholding steel trade.

It is the largest project currently under construction for an e-methanol production plant in Europe. The plant is expected to produce several thousand metric tons of e-methanol per year and will go into operation as early as 2025. For BUTTING this also means realising the project in a short space of time.

The scope of delivery includes pipes made of the materials 1.4307, 1.4541 and 1.4571 in sizes ranging from DN 150 to DN 500. To be able to deliver on time, longitudinally welded stainless steel tubes, on the one hand, are taken from the widely diversified warehouse and processed according to the project specifications: Special markings and chamfers on the pipe ends are applied mechanically and the quality is confirmed by extended acceptance tests. On the other hand, some pipe dimensions are customised by drawing on the extensive steel plate stock.

Alke Dammann, the project manager for this order from the business unit Stainless steel welded pipes, says: "We are proud to make a contribution to this project and to be able to supply for the project at short notice with the capabilities of our warehouse and fast-track production. BUTTING has focussed on sustainability for more than 245 years, so we are happy to support this project."

E-methanol is a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels, which are currently still used to power large ships. E-methanol is a light fuel that is produced with the help of green electricity from wind and solar energy. The fuel enables the effective storage and transport of renewable energies and represents an important step towards the decarbonisation of shipping in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the future.
