Delivery at short notice: 100 km of duplex pipes for the Arabian Peninsula

BUTTING recently impressed its customer in the oil and gas industry in the Middle East with its optimal time management. The family business produced a total of 100 kilometres of longitudinally welded duplex pipes and delivered them on time despite the very tight schedule, much to the delight of the end customer.

Our long-standing customer required 100 kilometres of longitudinally welded pipes for a project on the Arabian Peninsula. The challenge: the first 25 kilometres had to be produced, certified and coated within a very short time. Of the three qualified manufacturers worldwide, BUTTING was the one to impress and received the order with its assurance that it could meet the special deadline.

Within a very short time, pipes made of duplex LC65-2205 / UNS S31803 with dimensions of 219.1 x 5.6 mm had been manufactured in Knesebeck. In order to meet the tight schedule, production was carried out in parallel on three different welding systems in manufacturing lengths of 11,800 mm.

Isabel Manzei of the Stainless steel welded pipes project trade team is delighted that, with the completed order, "BUTTING has sustainably strengthened its existing customer relationship with the Middle East through meticulous and optimised scheduling. The deadline commitments were met thanks to the responsible way of working in all areas of the company and the expectations of our customer were completely fulfilled."

Besides austenitic steels and special alloys, BUTTING has specialised in the fabrication of duplex and superduplex materials. Since 1979 – so for more than forty years – we have been processing these materials into pipes, pipelines and vessels.
The duplex steel UNS S31803 / UNS S32205 / 1.4462 is characterised by high corrosion resistance. It is superior to the usual austenitic steels, especially in neutral and moderately acidic media. It offers particular advantages with regard to pitting corrosion, stress corrosion cracking and even vibration corrosion cracking.
