BUTTING focuses on geothermal energy

With the phase-out of nuclear energy in Germany, renewable energies are moving even further into focus. BUTTING supports the global energy transition with products for geothermal energy, among other things: BUTTING was recently commissioned by a renowned customer to manufacture casings for a new geothermal project: 2,656 m of 273.1 x 10.16 mm casings made of Superduplex as well as 823 m of 339.7 x 12.19 mm casings made of Alloy 625, in production lengths between 30 ft (approx. 9.15 m) and 38 ft. (approx. 11.6 m) in each case.

BUTTING has been a reliable partner for casings used in geothermal drilling in the Salton Sea in Southern California for many years. These pipes are used to line boreholes. In this region, special challenges have to be mastered: high temperatures, heavy corrosion and difficult drilling.

In an interview with the online magazine ThinkGeoEnergy, Norbert Heinzle, Managing Director at BUTTING in Knesebeck, explains: "The products we offer for the Salton Sea go far beyond the normal standard." He goes on to emphasise: "Our products compete with those of other suppliers not in price, but through alternative solutions and exceptional quality."

The family business focuses on renewable energies for future projects. "Geothermal energy is one of the most sustainable forms of energy around. We expect that the potential of geothermal energy will be used much more in the future than in the past," explains Norbert Heinzle.
