Think global - act local: this motto characterises our efforts at BUTTING to operate internationally on the world's markets while always maintaining a connection to our roots in the local and regional environment. This is why our strong commitment to the local community is at the centre of our sustainability efforts.
Help in all areas
BUTTING supports projects around our production sites that aim to help socially disadvantaged groups in the region. We cooperate with local organisations to provide financial support or food aid to families in need. Another important concern: Better educational opportunities for all.

Expression of our commitment
At BUTTING, pursuing sustainable goals in society means actively taking responsibility for our immediate community. After all, this is the social environment in which we are able to operate so successfully. That is why we are involved in a variety of projects in which we can share our success with those who are less fortunate.
You will find a few selected examples below.
Sponsorship of children’s and youth fire brigades
Children’s and youth fire brigades inspire young people to take up voluntary work and instil values such as responsibility, team spirit and a willingness to help from an early age. Since 2025, BUTTING has been supporting selected projects as a ‘partner of the fire services’, enabling purchases that enrich youth development work at a local level. BUTTING currently supports 22 children’s and youth fire brigades in the region surrounding its headquarters in Knesebeck, Lower Saxony. From handcarts and excursions to camping equipment, numerous purchases and initiatives by children’s and youth fire brigades in the region have already been supported.
Banner advertising for sports clubs
Through our perimeter advertising, we support local club sport in the area around our Knesebeck site, whilst at the same time sending a clear signal of our commitment to the region.
In this way, we support numerous clubs at men’s, women’s and junior levels, strengthen grassroots sport in our local area and help ensure that sports clubs continue to be places of community, voluntary work and sporting development for people of all generations.
Donation for language courses
BUTTING takes its responsibility for social and community issues seriously and has donated 135,055 euros to the district of Gifhorn. The donation will be used to finance a sufficient number of German courses throughout the district for the year 2024. In total, around 550 people will be able to learn German in 26 courses.
The House of Little Scientists
Under the leadership of the BUTTING Academy, we have been supporting kindergartens in the district of Gifhorn for many years in a unique cooperation project: the Berlin-based "Kinder forschen" foundation, which began its work in 2006. Its aim is to promote early childhood education in the fields of science and technology throughout Germany and to awaken the curiosity of three to six-year-olds for natural phenomena. In this way, every child can playfully discover their inclinations, interests and talents in science.

Integration workshop Nordkreis Gifhorn
The name BUTTING stands for a clear value orientation based on Christian ethics. We see ourselves as a source of inspiration and companion for the people and companies in the region. With this in mind, the BUTTING Akademie gGmbH has taken over the sponsorship of the Nordkreis Gifhorn integration workshop. The aim of the integration work at the centre is to enable refugees to participate fully and equally in all areas of society.
New Auetal School Lüder
Our society needs individuals who are courageous, responsible, self-reflective and creative. Discovering and promoting this potential and creating a space for holistic learning is the aim of the Neue Auetal School Lüder. The school is also an enrichment to the education on offer for the children of BUTTING employees as well as specialists and managers who wish to settle in the region. This increases the attractiveness of our region as a place to live and work.
Flood relief in NRW
The Quellenstraße kindergarten in Heimerzheim, North Rhine-Westphalia, fell victim to the major German flood disaster in summer 2021. The premises and outdoor facilities could no longer be used. The BUTTING Friends' Association made contact and launched a fundraising campaign. Owner Hermann Butting agreed to double the amount of the employee donations at the end. This raised 25,000 euros, which was handed over to the kindergarten for reconstruction on behalf of the entire BUTTING family.
New hospice in Gifhorn
BUTTING supported the construction of a new hospice in Gifhorn. This is also an expression of our innermost values: a hospice is more than just a building, it stands for an attitude. It is characterised by an atmosphere that gives the residents warmth, security and safety through its familiar character. Professional palliative medical and nursing care at the highest level is essential for this. Owner Hermann Butting therefore personally handed over a donation of 100,000 euros at the topping-out ceremony.
From our employees
BUTTING Förderverein e.V.
The BUTTING employees' support association in Knesebeck, which was founded in 1990, also supports people in need, youth and elderly care institutions, regional club sport and educational projects. The goals of the association are realised with the help of monthly donations from BUTTING employees. Almost 600 projects have been supported so far, and over 500,000 euros have been distributed for a good cause.
