Occupational health and safety as a corporate objective
Occupational health and safety are firmly anchored pillars of our corporate culture at BUTTING. It is a top priority for us to continuously improve in this area too. That is why we even included this area in our corporate goals in 2021 and created the new "Health, Safety and Environment" (HSE for short) unit at our headquarters in Knesebeck.
BUTTING - consciously designing SAFELY
Under the motto "BUTTING - consciously making it SAFE", we are investing in a comprehensive culture of occupational health and safety on an ongoing basis and promoting its implementation throughout the BUTTING Group. We do everything we can to prevent injuries, accidents and work-related illnesses and actively reduce potential hazards at our sites.
Tested safety
Certified according to ISO 45001
At BUTTING, we were certified according to OHSAS 18001 (Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series) in the area of occupational health and safety at an early stage. Following the introduction of the new ISO 45001 standard, BUTTING was also successfully audited in this area. In 2021, we received the qualification certificate for initial certification from TÜV Nord.
Approved worldwide
ISO 45001 ("Management systems for safety and health at work") is a globally applicable standard that formulates the comprehensive requirements for occupational health and safety management systems (OHSMS). Throughout the BUTTING Group, the ISO 45001 standard is the guideline that we use to systematically review all occupational health and safety issues and organise our activities.
Getting better and better
ISO 45001 provides us at BUTTING with the right tools to practically implement safety-related measures and integrate them into our daily routines. This enables us to recognise and eliminate weak points as early as possible. This process of continuous improvement makes BUTTING even safer - for us and for our partners.

BUTTING: Committed to safety
It is our declared aim to promote an active occupational health and safety culture throughout the BUTTING Group. We demonstrably improve occupational health and safety using suitable methods and tools as part of our management system. In this way, we continuously ensure greater safety in the workplace. Selected examples can be found below.
Establishment of the HSE
By implementing the independent Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) unit at BUTTING, we are emphatically emphasising the importance we attach to health and safety at work. This will enable us to better fulfil the increasing requirements of the authorities, certification bodies and, in particular, our customers.
Implementation of ISO 45001
Healthy and motivated employees are the key to sustainable economic success. BUTTING's internationally recognised ISO 45001 certification demonstrates that we live up to our social responsibility. We do everything we can to demonstrably reduce the risk of injuries, accidents and work-related illnesses among our employees.
Analysing the working environment
We systematically analyse the working environment of our employees, the machines and systems as well as the workplaces with regard to their hazard potential. We assess risks and take measures to minimise and prevent risks. We use a wide range of measures to continuously and sustainably minimise the number of accidents even further.
Optimisation of production
Our production is regularly inspected with regard to compliance with occupational safety regulations and requirements. We know that well-structured workplaces are a prerequisite for safe and effective work. We therefore implement systematic and sustainable standards for all work processes to ensure that they are safe, clean and clearly organised.
Holistic prevention
Safety for visitors
In order to ensure work, operational and plant safety for our external companies and visitors, all external companies at our Knesebeck site are briefed accordingly by our external company coordinator before entering the premises. The necessary regulations and specifications are laid down in our external company regulations.
Project "BUTTING - consciously designing SAFE"
This is a targeted training programme. The programme is carried out with all employees and managers and focuses on the following training topics:
- Targeted awareness of accident risks
- Safe walking, climbing and scrambling
- Controlling movements safely
- Avoiding dangerous reflexes
- Coordinating safe work processes for new activities and routine tasks
We take everyone with us
Occupational safety is a fundamental part of BUTTING's self-image. That is why we continuously raise the awareness of all our employees with regard to this important topic through a variety of measures. One example at BUTTING in Knesebeck is the annual internal award of the "Golden Broom" for production departments that act in a particularly exemplary manner.
