Energy management

In the interests of a responsible approach to energy consumption, we organise our production processes to save as much energy as possible.

Our responsibility

Saving energy

The energy management system is part of our Integrated Management System (IMS) and is closely interlinked with all areas of quality management, environmental protection and occupational health and safety. Our employees are informed about the key energy figures and made aware of potential savings through recommendations for action on a regular basis.

Increasing efficiency

With the introduction of energy management in 2012, BUTTING took an important step towards comprehensively monitoring energy consumption, identifying potential savings and increasing efficiency at an early stage. Our successful systematic energy management system has been certified in accordance with DIN EN ISO 50001 since 2015.

Moving forward step by step

We are striving to achieve CO2 neutrality in our business areas by 2050. Therefore, we are reducing our CO2 emissions by 30% by 2030 and by 60% by 2040 compared to the reference year 2022. Over the same period, we want to increase energy efficiency and reduce our scrap and reworking rates by 20% each by 2035.

ISO 50001

Certified energy management

A responsible use of energy is important to us. This is the reason why we have implemented an effective energy management system years ago which continuously improves energy efficiency within the company. This DIN EN ISO 50001-certified system reduces our energy costs, safeguards our competitiveness and conserves resources.

Thinking holistically

In order to systematically evaluate our energy flow in BUTTING's energy data, we are driving forward the continuous expansion of energy measuring points. Our suppliers are also involved in energy management through our regular energy reports, the provision of relevant information and the promotion of measures to reduce energy consumption.

Electric forklift

We have been pursuing the development of electric sideloaders for more than 20 years in close cooperation with our suppliers. We currently have 5 electric sideloaders in use to improve energy efficiency.

Green energy

We have had a photovoltaic system installed in Knesebeck, which suppliesour main plant with green energy. This enables us to save around 3.5 tonnes of_CO2 per month at this site alone. With this system, we generate around 700,000 kWh of green electricity per year - and can thus take another step towards our goal of_{CO2 neutrality} by 2050.

Combined heat and power plant

With the commissioning of a new combined heat and power plant in 2021, we are also making a valuable contribution to environmental protection at our main plant. The natural gas engine installed in it has an effective electrical output of 499 kWh and, thanks to efficient combined heat and power generation, ensures low consumption with minimised_{CO2 emissions}.

We rely on LED

In the BUTTING Group's production facilities, old lighting systems are gradually being removed and replaced by new LED lights. This not only increases the light yield in the production halls: Thanks to LEDs, energy savings of up to 50 % can be realised by simultaneously reducing the electrical connected load.

Utilise waste heat effectively

The heat requirement of our LOK administration building at the Knesebeck headquarters corresponds to that of a low-energy building and is even 50 % below the legal guidelines for new buildings. An integrated heat recovery system recovers almost 90 % of the waste heat from the machines used in the production of the coil tubing for heating the building.

We are in control

An important basis for energy management at BUTTING is the identification of potential energy savings. This is achieved at the top level through digital electricity meters at all transformer stations. Since 2015, we have been able to localise energy consumption on the factory premises by monitoring all transformer stations.
