Ready for the future - investing in infrastructure

Carsten Bagge, Head of Real Estate & Supply at BUTTING in Knesebeck, reports: "On average, we handle 40 lorries a day. Our rail siding is at its maximum - last year we moved over 100,000 tonnes of material over our rails". These figures prompted Carsten Bagge and the BUTTING management to take action some time ago.

"In December, work began on our new factory access road towards Vorhop," says Hermann Butting, beaming at the ground-breaking ceremony at the southern end of the factory site. He continues: "With the new connection, we can now also move forward with many other projects". In the medium term, a new car park for lorries is to be built, with rooms for the professional drivers. The employee car park is also to be relocated in this area.

Always considered in the overall picture: Sustainability. From possible charging stations for electric vehicles to offers for hydrogen lorries, the team is keeping an eye on all options. "Due to the lack of a political framework, it is difficult to make the 'right' decisions in this area in a timely manner," says Hermann Butting. However, he is all the more pleased about one undisputed advantage: "With the new access road, we are shifting the traffic a large distance away from the entrance to the village and thus relieving the burden on local residents."

The current construction measures create the framework for further steps: "By relocating the employee car park, we can create the conditions to expand our rail network on the factory premises and thus make even greater use of our rail connection," says Carsten Bagge, giving an insight into the current ideas.

The conclusion is clear: BUTTING in Knesebeck is getting fit for the future. "With our investments, we are no longer producing pipes, but we are improving processes and creating sustainable opportunities for further development in Knesebeck," says Hermann Butting, looking optimistically to the future of BUTTING in Knesebeck.
