The safety of our employees is BUTTING's greatest asset. That's why the family-owned company works closely and in partnership with the regional fire brigades at all its sites - as a supporter or partner during exercises, as was the case at our headquarters in Knesebeck in June.

From 6 p.m., there is a lot of excitement on the factory premises. The first vehicles from the fire brigades in Knesebeck and Wittingen arrived with flashing blue lights and sirens.

One of the first: BUTTING employee and operations manager Jens Dieckmann. Fortunately, it was only a drill on Friday.

The Knesebeck fire brigade recently received a so-called Hytrans Fire System (HFS) from the state of Lower Saxony. "The system is an important part of disaster control in Lower Saxony. We can transport large quantities of water in both flood situations and fire operations," says Jens Dieckmann, district fire chief in the Gifhorn district, explaining the advantages. "A lot of training is now required to ensure that every move is right in an emergency."

The large factory premises and the BUTTING pond make the BUTTING headquarters the ideal training ground.

Fire safety officer Andreas Meyer emphasises: "BUTTING is always happy to be a partner for the fire brigades. We organised the exercise together with Nils Haubold from the Knesebeck fire brigade. This was certainly not the last time that a fire service exercise will take place on our factory premises."

Technology & rescuing people

During this exercise, the focus was on using the HFS and rescuing people from a smoke-filled area. A 700 metre long hose line was set up. At the same time, firefighters wearing heavy breathing protection searched for and rescued several dummies from the smoke-filled timber store. At the end of the exercise, things got spectacular once again: over 2,000 litres of water per minute were pumped back into the BUTTING pond using the turntable ladder and a fire engine. "The exercise ended at around 9.30 pm and we returned to the fire stations," says Jens Dieckmann, reporting on the successful conclusion of the day. His conclusion: "We are slowly developing the routines we need at the HFS - also thanks to BUTTING.
