Company Football Tournament 2013: “Get something round into something square!”

“Get something round into something square!” – this was the motto for this year’s traditional company football tournament on the sports field in Knesebeck on 1 May, which celebrated a comeback after a five-year hiatus. BUTTING had reason to be especially happy because its main team won the coveted tournament cup without conceding a single goal throughout the entire tournament.

In total, eight teams from the region participated in the event: the plastic-processing unit from Hankensbüttel, the Isenhagen regional newspaper (Isenhagener Kreisblatt), Meyer Haustechnik, Sparkasse Gifhorn-Wolfsburg, Volksbank Wittingen-Klötze as well as three BUTTING teams (BUTTING main, BUTTING trainees 1 and BUTTING trainees 2). Losing or winning came second – it was the community that was of central importance on this day. And in order to strengthen this community – within the region as well as within the company – BUTTING had revived the traditional competition, which was held for the first time in 1964 and used to take place annually until 2008.

The success speaks for itself: the audience was able to enjoy high quality games and fair play during excellent weather. “This was a great event. The sports quality was very high in all teams, and everybody treated each other very fairly without exception,” said BUTTING’s managing director Thomas Schüller happily.

BUTTING was even twice as successful before a home crowd: aside from the BUTTING main team, BUTTING trainees 1 also achieved a spot among the first three, followed by the team of Volksbank Wittingen-Klötze. Even though all teams treated each other very fairly, and the referees did not award any time penalties, the Fairness Cup went to the team in fourth place: Sparkasse Gifhorn-Wolfsburg. All teams were awarded special prizes for their excellent performance.

Aside from a diverse programme for grown-ups and children, such as a bouncy castle, XXL table football, goal scoring measuring system including goal scoring competition, there was also a raffle with great prizes to win. The proceeds from the raffle as well as the starting fees of the participating teams will be donated to the youth team of the VfL Knesebeck.

After the company football tournament was concluded, everybody agreed that this event must return to become a fixture in the regional events calendar. And we already have requests for 2014.
