BUTTING

BUTTING – History of our company

BUTTING was founded in Crossen (belongs to Poland now) in 1777 as a coppersmith.

In 1890 the great-grandfather of Hermann Butting started the series produc- tion of soldered copper pipes in order to get from handicraft to industrial production.

After World War II and the escape from the former Eastern territories of Germany, the Butting family re-established the company in Knesebeck/Lower Saxony in 1945, where a wheel of their cart broke on the trek to the West. In 1949 the family was able to purchase the premises of a former brickyard and together with a few employees from Crossen re-started the manu- facture of welded pipes in copper. Since 1958 copper has been gradually sub- stituted by stainless steel.

To date the company has grown continuously. Corresponding to the globalisation of many markets we founded several affiliated companies in various countries around the world.

Today we are one of the leading manufacturers of longitudinally welded stain- less steel pipes, fittings and vessels. Our products are used worldwide. It has been our main objective to meet the challenges lying ahead together with our customers for more than 230 years.
